David City Infrastructure Projects Receive Prestigious State Engineering Awards

March 14, 2026

Two major David City infrastructure projects - The Road 37 Improvements and the Water Treatment Plant Upgrades - have received statewide engineering awards recognizing innovation, safety improvements, and investment in the community's future.

David City Infrastructure Projects Receive Prestigious Engineering Awards

The City of David City is proud to announce that two recent infrastructure projects have been recognized with prestigious engineering awards for excellence in design, innovation, and community impact. These awards highlight the City's commitment to investing in critical infrastructure that supports economic development, public safety, and the long-term needs of our residents.

Road 37 Infrastructure Improvements – Merit Award

The Road 37 Infrastructure Improvements project received a Merit Award for its innovative approach to improving transportation and safety in northwest David City.

When a major agricultural processing company announced plans to build a new industrial facility nearby, improvements to the road network became essential to support increased traffic and economic activity. Working with engineering consultant Olsson, the City constructed a new paved corridor and a 460-foot precast prestressed concrete bridge to eliminate a hazardous at-grade railroad crossing.

Additional improvements included:

  • Drainage and stormwater upgrades
  • Intersection and roadway safety improvements
  • Coordination with BNSF Railway to enhance traffic flow

Funding for the project included Tax Increment Financing and a $500,000 state grant, which helped extend utilities and improve infrastructure benefiting multiple local businesses.

Water Treatment Plant Upgrades – Honor Award & Category Winner

The David City Water Treatment Plant Upgrades project earned an Honor Award and Category Winner in the Water and Wastewater category, recognizing its innovative design and modernization of critical public infrastructure.

Working with JEO Consulting Group, the City transformed the nearly 40-year-old facility into a modern treatment system capable of meeting current and future demands.

Key improvements include:

  • Installation of Nebraska’s first municipal Closed Circuit Reverse Osmosis (CCRO) system
  • Upgrades to aerators and filters
  • A new intermediate clearwell and pump building
  • Improvements to backwash tanks and facility security
  • Renovations to extend the plant’s operational lifespan

The project was funded through the Nebraska State Revolving Fund (SRF) Program, including more than $6.3 million in loan forgiveness. The upgrades are expected to extend the life of the facility by more than 20 years while improving efficiency and water quality for residents.

Investing in David City’s Future

These awards reflect David City’s continued dedication to responsible infrastructure investment and community growth. The City appreciates the partnerships with Olsson, JEO Consulting Group, state agencies, and project contractors that helped make these projects successful.
