Mayor's Statement on Publication
The City of David City was recently notified of an investigation by the Nebraska State Auditor into conduct of former City Clerk Tami Comte regarding Ms. Comte’s use of a City credit card and Sam’s Club account, and payroll irregularities in her favor. On January 7, 2026, the Auditor issued its formal letter on the topic.
At the time it learned of this matter, the City had already begun its own investigation into these matters as well as potential issuance of permits contrary to policy. Ms. Comte retired at the end of November.
The City has fully cooperated with the Auditor’s investigation and will continue to do so. The City will follow the Auditor’s recommendations, and those of any law enforcement agency, regarding any further repercussions as to Ms. Comte.
In light of this incident, the City has undertaken a thorough review of its financial management policies. The City has implemented numerous steps to ensure its financial integrity going forward. These include requiring multiple signers on checks, multiple reviewers of payroll entries, strict limitations on the use of City credit cards and accounts, and checks to ensure proper issuance of permits going forward.
