POWER PLANT OPERATOR I

POSITION OVERVIEW

Serves as an Assistant Operator at the Electrical Generating Plant. Under direct supervision, this position assists with starting and stopping generating units and operating and maintaining auxiliary equipment to ensure reliable electric service.

KEY DUTIES

• Operate and monitor generating plant equipment
• Assist with adjustments and minor repairs to motors, pumps, and related equipment
• Read meters and maintain accurate logs
• Perform general yard work and housekeeping to keep the plant clean
• Fabrication work as needed
• Assist other City departments when required

QUALIFICATIONS

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Some experience with machinery similar to power plant equipment, willing to train
• Basic knowledge of electricity preferred
• Basic computer skills
• Ability to obtain Method 9 Opacity Certification
• Strong work ethic and ability to follow instructions

REQUIREMENTS & BENEFITS

• Valid Nebraska driver’s license required
• Wages based on employee pay scale
• Full benefits available within six months of hire
• On-call rotation required; some unscheduled hours for emergencies
• Must reside within a 15-mile radius of David City within six months of hire
