Police
The David City Police Department has been established to preserve the public peace, prevent crime, detect and arrest violators of the law, recover stolen property, protect life and property, and enforce all criminal and traffic laws, statues and infractions of the State of Nebraska, and the ordinance of the City of David City. The Chief of Police serves as the chief executive officer of the department and is held accountable for achieving the department's overall mission and responsibilities. The primary goal of the David City Police Department is to treat every citizen fairly, equally, consistently and professionally. The staff is committed to the law enforcement code of ethics.
The David City Police Department provides 24/7 coverage of David City with five full-time, and one part-time officer. The department has one full-time secretary that is responsible for maintenance and updating of departmental records, and the processing of officer's reports. The department has two marked patrol vehicles, one un-marked vehicle and one pickup truck. The department is housed in the city's public safety building located at 475 N 3rd Street, David City. (one block west, and one half block north of the highway traffic light). The officers work twelve hour shifts. Monday through Friday, between 9:00 AM and 6:00 PM there are two officers on duty, the shift officers and the Chief of Police. The department is equipped with updated law enforcement equipment, and provides officer training as needed. All officers have received their officer certification from the Nebraska Law Enforcement Training Center in Grand Island, Nebraska.
The department is responsible for law enforcement activities within the city as it relates to criminal investigations, motor vehicle operations, accidents, general patrol and city code enforcement.
The department is active with the Butler County and Nebraska State Crime Stoppers program. Chief Sunday is the president of the Nebraska State Crime Stoppers Program. The Department is the sub-grantee for and member of the Rural Apprehension (R.A.P.) Drug Task Force.
Also housed within the police department building are offices for the Nebraska State Patrol Troopers stationed in David City and the Butler-Polk County Victim Assistance Program.

At approximately 8:30 pm, the David City Police Department arrested 40 year old Cynthia A. (Weiland) Dix of David City on a felony warrant charging Cynthia with two counts of class II felonies of Delivery of Hazardous Drugs. The offenses took place on May 10, 2007 and June 01, 2007. The cases stem from an investigation by the Rural Apprehension Program, RAP. RAP is a multi jurisdictional task force with 75% of the funding coming from Federal Grant dollars administered by the Nebraska Crime Commission. David City Police Department and the Butler County Sheriff's Department, along with twenty-four other Nebraska law enforcement agencies are members of RAP. Cynthia's bond is 10% of $250,000.00.
